Area
This page serves only as an introduction. To really get a feel for the area, you need to feel its heart beat, explore its streets and lie on its beaches. Only then will you have truly tasted the relaxing tradition of the White Coast, which is, the Costa Blanca.
Cabo Roig is situated approximately 5 miles south of Torrevieja (About 40 mins drive south of Alicante). The area around Cabo Roig is designated by the World Health Organisation as one of the healthiest places in Europe to live due to the climate created by the local salt lakes, which is reputed to be particularly beneficial for arthritis and asthma sufferers.
The well stocked supermarket, which can supply all your food and drink requirements, is only a few minutes away, as are the numerous bars and restaurants to cater for all your needs. Within a walking distance is the Orihuela Costa Club with it’s restaurant, bar, gym, swimming pool, tennis courts and an open air cinema. Overlooking the picturesque marina there is another excellent and renowned seafood restaurant adjacent to the historic watch tower.
All the beaches in the area carry the European Blue Flag and gently shelve towards the warm Mediterranean Sea. Some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean include La Mata, Los Locos, El Cura, Guardamar and of course, La Zenia and Cabo Roig. All, are flanked by bars and restaurants and most provide children’s play equipment, volleyball nets etc. In the summer months there is normally a kids club located on the beach. If you prefer to explore, there are many isolated beaches to be found dotted along the coast.
Eating Out
To dine out in Spain is much easier on the wallet than in the UK. The area has a wealth of restaurants, serving cuisine from around the world. Nestled between traditional Spanish Tapas Bars you will find Chinese, Indian, French, Italian, American restaurants and the odd English Chippy, to name but a few.
Local Attractions
You will find a variety of water sports on offer such as surfing, sailing and water skiing. The International Sports Marina offers yachting and diving facilities. If you prefer take a boat trip to the island of Tabarca, with it’s spectacular scenery and where scuba diving and snorkelling are a pleasure, or simply sit on the beach and enjoy the sun with a refreshing cold beer.
Torrevieja is the main seaside town to Cabo Riog and worth several visits.
Torrevieja's Aqua Park “Aquapolis” has lots of water slides suitable for all ages and is well worth a visit. Take a picnic and eat in the gardens or why not try one of the cafes where all tastes are catered for.
Children and adults alike will love the fairground at Torrevieja seafront. Visit at night and you will find the craft market thriving with street entertainers, tourist souvenirs and local crafts. You can buy hand made jewellery, carved art from Africa and leather goods at a fraction of the price at home or have your portrait drawn by any one of the many talented artists.
Torrevieja holds numerous festivals for you to enjoy or even take part in. Don’t miss the Habaneras and Polyphony Event In August, which nowadays has become an international event and is considered to be one of the most cultural happenings in Europe.
Surrounding Torrevieja are the world renowned salt lakes. Known as 'Laguna de la Mata' and the 'Salinas de Torrevieja'. They date back to the 12th century and are currently the most important in the world. A variety of wildlife, including flocks of flamingo, thrive on this wetland habitat, which is managed as a conservation area. Visitors are catered for too, with walkways and tracks to explore. The lakes are an ideal location for walking and cycling and being just a few minutes away from the town centre they are also very accessible. The lakes bask in a wonderful dry micro climate which produces fantastic winter weather, so you can be assured of great days all year round. Many people suffering from ailments such as arthritis, rheumatism and asthma can find that they are greatly improved after visiting the lakes. Why not visit the Lakes of La Mata and enjoy a mud bath. The treatment is recommended worldwide to ease pains associated with rheumatic, dermatological, heart and respiratory complaints.
Also approximately 1½ hours drive inland are two health spas/mineral hot springs (Archena and Fortuna) set in magnificent surroundings amidst mountains, palm trees and orange and lemon groves, where one can bathe in temperatures of 35°C in the winter months or receive special medicinal mineral water treatments.
Day Trips
Benidorm has numerous attractions such as dolphins, a zoo and various parks with the addition of the new Theme Park, Terra Mitica, the largest theme park in Europe and is Spain's answer to Disneyworld with its roller coasters, water rides and attractions, coffee shops and restaurants.
Murcia whose majestic cathedral features some fine examples of Spanish baroque and Renaissance art, also has an excellent shopping centre.
Cartagena, where the world's oldest surviving submarine was launched, is a town with plenty of Spanish Naval history so plenty of boats, ships and shops.
Santa Pola is another village with a Sunday morning Market and a lovely beach area and wonderful walks. You can also take a boat trip to the island of Tabarca.
Alicante is a must visit. In the evening there is plenty of entertainment, in the day time lovely beaches, not to mention the modern shopping centre.
La Manga & Mar Menor. The Mar Menor (small sea) is a part of the Mediterranean separated from the sea by the La Manga Strip. The water is shallow, warmer and saltier. Resorts such as Lo Pagan, Los Alcazares and Santiagos de la Ribera are typically Spanish with very few visitors. The world famous golf resort, La Manga Club, is situated in the hills 5kms from La Manga.
Orihuela. This is a paradise for those interested in historic architecture. The main attraction is the cathedral.
Guadalest. A 12th Century mountain top town situated North of Alicante, inland from Benidorm. The mountain peaks reaching 8,000 feet.
Sierra Espuna. A wild and remote mountain range inland from Cartagena. Peaks greater than 6,000 feet housing the village of Almedo.

Golf
There are three championship golf courses within 10 minutes drive from the villa offering superb year round golfing. Villamartin built almost 30 years ago is well established and challenging, and has a popular and pleasant collection of bars and restaurants to refresh you after a day on the course. Real Campoamour is slightly easier with spectacular views over the Mediterranean. Les Ramblas is the newest championship course and with its two lakes and numerous ravines is a golfing challenge. La Finca is the latest addition within 15 minutes drive of the others and is favoured by the Expatriates. The renowned La Manga resort can be seen from the property and is within an easy drive, along with 10 other clubs on the Costa Blanca.
